George I. 1714-1727. AR Maundy set. 1727. S. 3658. Set: ESC 1618 (2401) (6). 4d: ESC 1622 (1897) (R). 3d: ESC 1927 (2018) (S). 2d: ESC 1636 (2225B) (S). 1d: ESC 1948 (2330) (R). Generally a relatively pleasant looking set. On inspection: •4d: evenly toned near EF with luster in legends, choice. •3d: near EF, less toning, some luster, small hole at base of bust. •2d: near VF, light toning, some iridescence. •1d: evenly worn obverse, VG or a bit better (reverse better), tiny hole at 12 obverse.

The Frank Robinson Collection.

George I had no use for the Maundy ceremony. The Mint produced sets in 1723 and 1727 only. For that matter, George I cared little for small change generally. His reign is one of the more challenging milled silver coinage reigns to represent well.
