Victoria. 1837-1901. AR halfcrown. 14.11 gm. 32 mm. Young head Type A3 (only minted 1839 and 1940). 1840. Her young head left; 2 plain fillets, WW incuse / Crowned square-topped shield. S. 3888. ESC 2715 (673) (S). Near Extremely Fine; a few minor "bag" marks, light gray with blue highlights toning, some iridescence. If you collect YH Victoria silver by variety you know how seldom you see pieces such as this. The Type A3 is the one type in the YH halfcrowns with a very short issue that also includes a currency piece, the 1840; types A1, A2, and A2/3 are extremely hard to represent-proofs only. The shillings are similar, A1, A2, A5 and A7 are difficult types and many of the florin sub-types are even harder.
