SCOTLAND. Charles I. 1625-1649. AR 30 shillings. 14.8 gm. 35 mm. Third coinage (1637-1642), Briot. Charles on horseback left, sword raised; tiny B and flower (anenome) at end of obverse legend; the sword extends through the X of REX to the outer circle / Square topped shield; QVÆ DEVS CONIVNXIT NEMO SEPARET ("What God hath joined together let no man put asunder" KJV language, Matthew 19:6). S. 5553. Burns Fig. 1006. Brooker 715. Good Very Fine; handsome coin with light old toning over fresh surfaces; a few minor flaws in the planchet that reflect production at the time. Struck with mill and screw press rather than traditional hammering, a minting method approved by the Lords of Secret Council in January 1637.
