An unusual crown on the draped bust of Edward VI facing right / A Bible on edge opened to Exodus; HEAR • READ • MARK • LEARN around; CHRIST'S HOSPITAL INST MDLIII in exergue. Edge: JOHN STRATTON 1808 engraved. Eimer 29. Extremely Fine; punch mark on cheek and a couple of disturbances in the obverse field; deep steel gray cabinet toning with light iridescence, on fresh surfaces. Struck to commemorate the founding of Christ's Hospital in London in 1553. The edge was inscribed with the date and name of the marker whose function was to supervise the behavior of other boys.
