Titus. As Caesar, A.D. 69-79. AR denarius. 3.22 gm. 16 mm. Antioch mint. Struck under Vespasian, A.D. 72-73. His laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right; T CAES IMP VESP PON TR POT / Neptune standing left, right foot on globe, holding acrostolium and scepter; NEP RED. RIC II.1 1561 (Vespasian). RSC 122. RPC II 1933. SRC 2433. Very Fine; bright and appealing. A scarce coin, with an attractive portrait and particularly clear and well struck Neptune. The reverse type is copied from a coin of Octavian portraying Octavian as Neptune, issued over a century earlier.

The elder son of Vespasian, Titus served in Germany and Britain, and commanded a legion in his father's Jewish campaign, where he eventually captured Jerusalem in A.D. 70.
