His laureate bust right; IMP CAESAR TRAIANVS HADRIANVS AVG / Britannia seated facing, resting foot on rock, head on hand, and holding scepter; shield to right; PONT MAX TR POT COS III around, S C across field, BRITANNIA in exergue. Struck to commemorate Hadrian's travels around the empire during the early part of his reign. One early stop of these trips was in Britainnia, during which he began construction of his famous seventy-three-mile-long wall across the north of the province to shore up Rome's northern border.
