JUDAEA, Roman Administration. Tessera (Lead, 16 mm, 2.62 g), circa 2nd to 4th centuries. Seven-branched menorah flanked by shofar and lulav. Rev. Vine leaf (?). Very rare. An attractive and interesting tessera. Very fine.
We have attributed this extraordinary group of very rare tesserae showing menoroth (Lots 968-972) to Judaea to keep them together, but they could have been made in any of the many Jewish communities across the eastern Empire.
