Lot of 13 Jewish tokens from the 1920s-1950s

US, New York: gilt donation medallion of the National Association for the Jewish Blind, undated - 1958(?); size: 32mm; weight: 10.5g. Obverse bears image of crowd reaching to the sky and the word "Light" above them, with legend around edge "National Association for the Jewish Blind N.Y.C. 58". On reverse legend "This Medallion is Awarded in Appreciation for Your Aid in the Cause of the Blind".

Token for luck - Mount Sinai Hospital

Obverse: In the center of the medal you can see a cent from 1950. Around it is the inscription (In Hebrew and English): "MERCY SHOWN FELLOW MEN WILL WIN MERCY IN HEAVEN" , With the caption "GOOD LUCK".

Reverse: around the 1-cent coin, the caption "MOUNT SINAI HOSPITAL AND CLINIC, LOS ANGELES, CALIF". Under it the caption "THE INSTITUTION WITH A HEART" between two heart patterns.

"Jewish Day - Century of Progress" exhibition medal, Chicago, USA.

struck in brass AT 1933. weight: 10.9g, size: 32mm.

Obverse: depicts Star of David with Hebrew date for year "5693", artist's name lightly engraved between the swirls of the design.

reverse: image of Moses bearing the Tablets descending Mount Sinai and legend in Hebrew "And Moses Descended Unto the People".

The "Jewish Day" is recorded by some observers as "the greatest Jewish spectacle ever staged in Chicago", and it took place on July 3, 1933, at Soldier Field, before more than 125,000 people. It was sponsored by the Jewish Agency for Palestine (the quasi-governmental authority of the Jewish community in Palestine), with the President of the Zionist Congress, Dr. Chaim Weizmann, specially invited as the keynote speaker.

The musical-theatrical pageant "The Romance of A People" was the culminating event of the day (which took five years to plan) which commemorated Jewish contributions to the city of Chicago since its founding in 1833. The "Jewish Day" was one of around 24 such days planned by the Fair Committee to commemorate the contributions of various nationalities which composed the city of Chicago - as the Jews identified themselves closely with Palestine, the Jewish Agency was involved in the organizations and hence the themes of the event and this token.

$1 donation token for Jewish Sanitarium for Incurables, 1926. The institution was founded in 1925 and became the the Jewish Chronic Disease Hospital (where the gene for Tay-Sachs disease was discovered); in 1968 it became Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center.

"Mazal" token

Front: A star of David in the center, with the ten commandments in the center of the star, with the words, "May life's richest rewards be yours" and "Mazel" in Hebrew and English on the edge.

Back: "Guard the children of the poor / From them might come forth learning" on the top of the medal with a Menorah in the center surrounded by a wreath.

Cohanim blessing token

Front: Picture of two lions of David holding the Ten Commandments between them. Inscribed below in English and Hebrew "Mazel".

Back: In the center, a picture of a pair of hands making the priestly sign. Surrounding the picture, "May the Lord bless thee and keep thee, may the lord let his face shine upon thee and how thee favor, may the lord lift up his countenance unto thee and give thee peace".

Donation token - for the Infants Orphans

New York: 3 good luck-fund raising tokens for Hebrew Kindergarten & Infants Home, circa. 1920-1930 (hand-engraved on the coin 1928 probably by the first owners).

Opened in 1905 and functions to this day. Three different fundraising tokens were issued, all containing the address of the day school on Montgomery Street as well as the addresses of the orphanage on Plainview Avenue and Central Avenue, in Far Rockaway.

4 donation tokens of $1 for Jewish "Home of the Sons and Daughters of Israel" home for the aged.

circa. 1920s.

Front: "CONTRIBUTION" and "ONE DOLLAR" around the rim. "HELP US AND GOD WILL HELP YOU" appears in the center between an imprint of a scarfed woman and a bearded man.

Back: "THE GREAT DRIVE FOR A HOME FOR THE AGED" and "232 E. 10 ST." around the rim. "HELP US BUILD" appears above an imprint of a building in the center and "HOME OF THE SONS AND DAUGHTERS OF ISRAEL" appears below the building.
