India, Ujjain city state. Ca. 1st century B.C. Æ unit (16 mm, 3.13 g). Fish standard in railing, with sun symbol above platform to right / Blank. Not listed in any catalogue. An unrecorded type, similar to the Taxila type rated as R3 (Extremely Rare) by HGC (Vol. 12, 815). RRR and choice.
The fish standard is one of the great rarities in ancient Indian coinage. This specimen was probably issued by an important temple or cult centre in the ancient Ujjain region.
