CILICIA. Tarsos or an Uncertain Mint in Southwestern Asia Minor. Circa 455-400 BC. Stater (Silver, 22 mm, 10.94 g, 3 h), overstruck on an uncertain stater of Aspendos. Crenelated city walls with three towers. Rev. Forepart of bull to right; at lower right, ankh; all within incuse square – this design partially overstruck on the reverse of an Aspendian stater with ΕΣ... clearly visible. For the Tarsos, see CNG 109, 2018, 190 (same dies), otherwise, unpublished save for auction appearances, and hitherto unknown overstruck on Aspendos. An interesting and rare coin. Flatness and considerable traces of overstriking, otherwise, about extremely fine.
