KINGS OF CAPPADOCIA. Ariarathes VI Epiphanes Philopator, circa 130-112/0 BC. (Bronze, 17.5 mm, 5.60 g, 11 h), Eusebeia Mazaka. Diademed and draped bust of Ariarathes VI to right, wearing high bashlyk; behind his neck, circular countermark with a facing radiate bust of Helios. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ /[ΑΡΙΑΡΑΘΟΥ] Bow in gorytos; monogram below. Henseler 21. HGC 7, 827. Simonetta 6. SNG von Aulock 6262. An unusually heavy example, clear and with fine surfaces. Reverse slightly off-center, otherwise, good very fine.
This is by far the heaviest of the few examples known; it is unclear whether it was struck by mistake on a flan intended for a different denomination.
