LUCANIA. Metapontum. Circa 330-290 BC. Nomos or Didrachm (Silver, 20 mm, 7.94 g, 1 h), Ly.... Head of Demeter to left, wearing grain wreath, triple-pendant earring and pearl necklace. Rev. ΜΕΤΑ Ear of barley with leaf to left; to left above leaf, Artemis running to right; below leaf, ΛY. HN III 1590. Johnston Class C, 7.5 (same dies). A stunning example of rich early Hellenistic style. Obverse struck off-center from slightly rusty and slightly battered dies, otherwise, virtually as struck.
