Theodosius I, 379-395. Miliarense (Silver, 23 mm, 4.95 g, 7 h), Constantinople, 388-392. THEODO-SIVS P F AVG Draped and cuirassed bust of Theodosius to right, wearing diadem of pearls and rosettes. Rev. GLORIA ROMANORVM / CON Theodosius, nimbate and in military dress, standing facing, with his head turned to left, holding lance with his right hand and resting his left on his shield, set on the ground. Apparently unpublished in RIC. Cf. RIC IX 84 for a similar issue of Valentinian II. Extremely rare and important. Flan crack on 6h and with some slight roughness on the fields, otherwise, good very fine.

The use of the rosette diadem is atypical for the miliarense series of Theodosius but are very common for his solidi.
