Sixtus IV took exception to the 'majesty of the papal office' and produced exceptional single and double grossi bearing his portrait. Grierson (p.183) tells us 'with a portait by Emiliano Orfini reminiscent of Melozzo da Forli's splendid painting of the pope receiving a copy of Platina's History at the inauguration of the Vatican Library'.
