South Russia. Rostov-on-Don. State Bank and State Treasury of the High Command of the South Russian Armed Forces, 1918-1920. Archive of Currency Proofs. Folio, contemporary Folder inscribed on cover "Weiß Definitiv". Well over 100 proofs and separations for various Civil War issues and denomination, generally mounted 1 to 4 per page on blank leaves. Types (many with various impressions) include: 1918 -- 50 Kopecks, 1 Rouble, 3, 5, 10, 25, 100, 250 and 500 Roubles; 1919 – 100, 1000, 5000, 3, 10, 50, 200, 1000 and 10,000 Roubles; 1920 – 100, 250 and 500 Roubles; Two identified 500 Rouble background designs; An unidentified 5000 Rouble background design; Also, nine various postage stamps of the period. Proof impressions of major banknote elements are printed in black, often with background portions printed in various colors – brown, orange, green, yellow-brown, black, purple, generally on regular paper stock. Some printed on both sides, a few printed in two colors. Most of these proof impressions are not recorded by Istomin in his Catalogue of banknotes of the Civil War in Russia. The folder a bit worn, some specimens are loose, impressions occasionally marked in purple crayon. The Proofs: Uncirculated. A fascinating and unique collection. Value $75,000 - UP
