Germany Federal Republic Allied Occupation 50 Deutsche Mark ND (1948) Pick 10a PMG Superb Gem Unc 67 EPQ. An iconic post World War II issue that seldom appears in any grade, let alone in Superb Gem Uncirculated. In 1948, American, British, and French military authorities created the Bank of the German States, which began issuing currency in various denominations. Tudor Press printed all denominations above 1 Deutsche Mark, and because of a lack of security features, the 20 and 50 Deutsche Mark notes were counterfeited on a massive scale. Ultimately, these highest denomination notes were withdrawn the following year, leaving extant examples to be very scarce today. At the time of cataloging, this 50 Deutsche Mark is the single finest graded example in the PMG Population Report. An important post-World War II issue, and in this elite grade, could prove our estimates conservative. https://currency.ha.com/itm/world-currency/germany-federal-republic-allied-occupation-50-deutsche-mark-nd-1948-pick-10a-pmg-superb-gem-unc-67-epq/a/4021-28229.s?type=CoinArchivesCurrency4021 HID08706262019 © 2019 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
