New Caledonia Banque de l'Indochine 100 Francs 10.5.1889 Pick 12s Specimen PMG About Uncirculated 53. Some banknotes and Specimens are rare, but occasionally surface, leaving hope for enthusiasts looking to fill voids in their collections. But there are some types that are so rare one must take seriously the incredible opportunity when the banknote appears. Take for instance this 19th century type, stamped dated 1889, which may very well be the first example offered in a public auction. In fact, this exact banknote is the plate note for the type in The Banknote Book's New Caledonia chapter. Outstanding original paper is seen on this large format type. Typical pinholes are seen on this otherwise handsome original. This fully issued note was transformed to a Specimen with a red overprint on the front. Manuscript signatures and other wink remains incredibly bright despite the century that has passed. Desirable and extremely rare.
