Cuiaba. João VI Counterstamped 960 Reis ND (1821) AU55 PCGS, KM352, Bentes-441.03. Crowned "960/C" within wreath and Portuguese coat-of-arms counterstamps (UNC Detail) upon Peru 8 Reales 1806 LM-JP. The sole certified example of this counterstruck type by PCGS - and although this forbids grade comparison, anyone familiar with countermarked 8 Reales will recognize the outstanding quality of this piece. The host coin had seen very little circulation when it was restruck, and its stamp is so firmly applied that it has developed its own delightful steel-blue patina, its details razor-sharp. Surely amongst the finest of this type to exist, and a must-have for the dedicated collection of Brazilian coins.
