Yunnan. Republic Tael ND (1943-1944) MS63 NGC, KM-X3 (under French Indo-China), L&M-435, Lec-235. Small stag head type. Struck for use in French Indo-China. A very difficult grade for this characteristically crude wartime emission, particularly when one considers that the highest grade awarded for the type at NGC is an MS65, and that only 3 pieces rank finer than the present out of 248 certified. Further toned to a satisfying red-orange with die polish all throughout the fields.
