Emden. Free Imperial City gold Medallic 1/4 Portugalöser (2-1/2 Ducat) 1743 MS62 NGC, cf. Knyphausen-6306 (2 Ducat dated 1740). 26mm. 8.65gm. Variety with edge lettering giving date. An extremely fleeting specimen from this already difficult German city, almost certainly the only certified example of the type, and the only representative of this date we have been able to locate--Knyphausen recording solely the dates 1740 and 1746.
