William III gold Guinea 1700 AU55 NGC, KM498.1, S-3460. A superb Almost Uncirculated Guinea and a very difficult type to locate, as the Great Recoinage of 1696 mainly focused on the production of silver coinage and thus William III gold issues are comparatively scarce. Slightly flattened on the highpoints, but not enough to disguise the bold strike or significantly obscure the sharp devices. Residual luster resides within the legends, punctuated by deep flares of red tone.
