George III gilt-copper Proof Pattern Guinea 1798 PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS, Soho mint, KM-Pn64var., W&R-109var. By C. H. Kuchler. A fantastic Pattern of superb production quality, executed in the same 'Cartwheel' style as introduced the preceding year; broad, matte rims frame George's elaborately engraved portrait, the fields behind flashy and reflective. Fiery orange blushes along portions of outer circle serve to further elevate this gem, providing a dose of age-character to otherwise new and untoned surfaces. We last handled this piece in our January 2015 sale where it realized $4,400 hammer; since then, appreciation for such high-grade Proofs has only increased; as such, we anticipate strong interest in this gorgeous coin.
