Victoria gold Sovereign 1879 XF45 NGC, KM752, S-3856A, Marsh-90 (R4). From a mintage of just 20,013 pieces, the 1879 Sovereign ranks amongst Britain's rarest. Unfortunately, this rarity was only noticed after the entire issue had entered circulation, and thus representatives are seldom encountered in any acceptable grade. For the type, this XF45 specimen is impressive; bagmarked and with flatness to Victoria's portrait, yet with luster still glimmering at the peripheries and hints of a peach tone forming. A year missing from many advanced Sovereign collections, sure to be popular thus.
