Paraguay
Republic gold "Charles de Gaulle Visit" Medal 1964 MS62 NGC, 45mm. 50gm. An exceedingly rare gold medal struck in commemoration of Charles de Gaulle's visit to Paraguay in October of 1864. The obverse portrays the joint busts of Charles de Gaulle and Paraguayan President Alfredo Stroessner, with the reverse displaying the Paraguayan lion and motto "Paz y Justicia" (Justice and Peace). Stray marks establish the grade, though these are easily absorbed by the already striated surfaces, leaving only the struck design and bright golden luster to draw the eye's attention. The example remains the only of its type that we have been able to locate, and likely exists as one of only a small handful, making it an ideal target for the rarity-seeking collector.
