Spanish Colony. Alfonso XIII 40 Centavos 1896-PGV MS61 NGC, Madrid mint, KM23. An exceedingly difficult one-year type to attain in Mint State--only 13 examples graded finer between MS62 to MS64 out of 168 seen to-date by NGC. From a technical standpoint, the overall preservation of the piece seems remarkably crisp for falling on the lower end of Mint State, likely due to some minor wisps, though the strike remains frosty and precise, with mottled colors filling the peripheries.
