MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Alexander III the Great (336-323 BC). AV stater (18mm, 8.57 gm, 6h). NGC MS★ 5/5 - 4/5, Fine Style. Early posthumous issue of Amathus, ca. 323-320 BC. Head of Athena right, wearing necklace and triple crested Corinthian helmet pushed back on head, the bowl decorated with coiled serpent right, hair falling in four tight spiral curls, crest ends long and wavy / AΛEΞANΔPOY / BA-ΣIΛEΩΣ, Nike standing left, wreath upward in right hand, stylis cradled on left arm; prow right below wing in left field. Price 3092 (same dies). Extremely rare - only three examples found in sales archives in the past 20 years (this specimen inclusive).
