Olmutz. Karl II gold 5 Ducat 1678 AU58 NGC, KM269, Fr-76 (under Bohemia). 17.2gm. A meticulously struck medallic 5 Ducat piece. Karl's portrait is rendered superbly, the lightest wear to the highpoints as one would expect from the grade but with such depth of engraving detail that it still appears razor sharp; the reverse features a similarly crisp and extravagant coat of arms. The flan is slightly irregular resulting in a ridge in front of the portrait, serving to accentuate the delicate luster flowing across the butter-gold surfaces, turning more reflective at the peripheries. Of uncontested beauty, and lovingly looked after by every proud collector to have previously owned it; its next owner will surely have to place a strong bid to secure it.
