Hesse-Darmstadt. Ludwig IV gold Proof 20 Mark 1892-A PR66 Cameo NGC, Berlin mint, KM365, J-221. One-year type. A truly laudable representative of this very scarce type-date, preserved in even finer condition than the D. Moore Collection example which we sold in 2017 (Auction #3051, Lot 32147). This fact speaks volumes to the extraordinary condition of the offering, given the inclusion of a comparatively lower grade example in a collection that centered on impressive condition and visual appeal. As one would expect for a Proof, the coin is struck to perfection, with a layer of golden frost over the devices that accentuates these against the mirrored fields, these absent any meaningful distractions.
