Great Britain
Elizabeth I (1558-1603) gold Pound ND (1595-1598) MS62 NGC, Tower mint, Woolpack/Key mule mm, Sixth issue, S-2534, N-2008. 11.26gm. A Tudor medallic masterpiece with exceptional engraving detail, by far one of Elizabeth's most popular coins. No collection of hammered gold could be complete without an example, and the present offering ranks amongst the finest, certified as a firm Mint State. Definitively struck with a far crisper portrait than is usual for the type, an abundance of velvety luster coating the planchet; the obverse die is very clear and fresh, the reverse die somewhat worn with thick die-polish lines, but nonetheless pleasing to the eye. Butter-yellow, subtle hints of red tone forming in the peripheries and bolstering the aesthetic effect. A captivating representative and very seldom encountered so fine as this.
