Great Britain
James I (1603-1625) gold Rose Ryal ND (1612-1613) AU58 NGC, Tower mint, Tower mm, Second coinage, S-2613, N-2079. Ever-popular as a type, a truly superlative piece and very rarely found as well-preserved as this. This denomination marks the final British coin produced following the Sovereign canon of Henry VII, with monarch enthroned between pillars, the reverse shield within a rose (hence 'Rose' Ryal). The present specimen has been fantastically struck so as to leave no weakness anywhere on the planchet, every detail boldly rendered (particularly James's portrait); there is a slight wave to the flan, but this is certainly as-made. With exceptional color and quality of production, collectors could scarcely hope for a better representative of the type.
