Great Britain
George I gold "Prince Elector" Guinea 1714 AU55 NGC, KM538, S-3628. The first Guinea to be struck during George I's reign; bearing perhaps the most highly commended portrait of this Hanoverian King, dubbed the 'Prince Elector' type for its inclusion of PR. EL. at the end of the King's titles denoting his status as Elector of the Holy Roman Empire. The unique style and execution of this variety always grants it considerable popularity amongst collectors, particularly as it remains so elusive in higher grades. This lofty AU55 example boasts a far higher certification than average, light flattening to George's portrait the sole evidence of circulation. The pleasing lemon gold surfaces glisten with considerable luster, boldly struck giving crisp devices and a satisfying dentil border. Scarcely encountered so appealing as this.
