Great Britain
George IV gold Proof 5 Pounds 1826 PR63 Cameo NGC, KM702, S-3797, W&R-213 (R3). Septimo raised lettered edge. The most popular coin of George IV's reign, the largest denomination inclusion from his mid-reign 1826 Proof set produced at the height of British numismatic skill in both technology and engraving. So enamored was the vain King with this portrait, executed by William Wyon, that it remained unchanged on his coinage until his death in 1830. The fields of this fabulous choice offering are hairlined, slightly dimming their mirrors and hence reducing contrast to George's deeply frosted and immaculate portrait, but its eye appeal is still immensely strong, sand-gold colored centers with honey-gold toned peripheries. Amongst the most coveted coins of the entire British numismatic series.
