George IV gold Proof 5 Pounds 1826 PR61 Cameo NGC, KM702, S-3797, W&R-213 (R3). Septimo raised lettered edge. William Wyon's artistic accomplishment is plainly evident here, George's depiction sensitively rendered with a pleasing contrast achieved through the juxtaposed smoothness of his cheek to the curling waves of his hair, the entirety bearing a light matte frost. The production of this piece is clearly perfect; it is only denied a higher technical grade for moderate handling and hairlines in the fields, alongside some minor edge knocks. Just 150 pieces of this large Proof-only issue were struck, resulting in their being a hotly-contested commodity amongst collectors, and we have no doubt that this offering will find its place in a premium collection of British gold.
