Victoria Proof "Gothic" Crown 1847 PR62★ Cameo NGC, KM744, S-3883. UN DECIMO edge. An outstanding example of this famed Crown type; its technical certification is impressive, but not what makes this coin near unique. Out of almost 450 total 1847 Gothic Crowns seen by NGC, this offering represents one of just two of any variety to have been awarded the 'star' in recognition of its eye appeal - and the reasons for this are plain to see. Whereas this type often exhibits somewhat subdued luster, this piece is highly reflective with a pale gold tone, Victoria's portrait perfectly coated with matte frost in line with its cameo designation (in fact, this is one of the best contenders for an 'Ultra Cameo' designation that the cataloger has seen). The fields bear hairlines commensurate with its grade, but the aesthetic quality is such that these pale into insignificance. One of the finest Gothic Crowns to enter the market of late and sure to generate significant bidder interest.
