Venice. Marco Barbarigo gold Ducat ND (1485-1486) MS64 NGC, Fr-1240, Paolucci-51.1 (R5), Mont-237 (R5). 3.58gm. An exceptionally rare Venetian Ducat type, which one hardly ever encounters on auction, this phenomenon occurring as a result of the Barbarigo's short-lived tenure as Doge, lasting only from September of 1485 to August of 1486. This only makes the present offering more impressive to behold, its satiny surfaces lacking all but the most minute handling, and its strike leaving the features of St. Mark and Christ expressed with vivid clarity. A coin of great importance to the Venetian, and Italian, series, and one of only two seen by NGC.
