Vittorio Emanuele II gold Proof 20 Lire 1878-R PR64 Ultra Cameo NGC, Rome mint, KM10.2 (unlisted in Proof), Pag-475. An exceedingly rare issue in Proof, this example is not only unrecorded as such in the Standard Catalog of World Coins, but is the only representative of the date to be certified in this format by NGC, with no others seen by PCGS. Heavily laden with golden frost, the devices stand in sharp contrast against the fields, which appear nearly jet black when viewed at a slight angle, confirming the special nature of the strike. Likely the only chance many collectors will have to acquire a Proof example from the reign of Vittorio Emanuele II, and worthy of close consideration and bidder attention thus.
