Umberto I gold Proof 20 Lire 1879-R PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC, Rome mint, KM21 (unlisted in Proof), Pag-575. A marvelous survivor of a type virtually never seen in this format and unrecorded as a Proof issue in the Standard Catalog of World Coins. Similar to the prior lot in the auction, this offering ranks as the only certified example that has come to evaluation with either NGC or PCGS, its technical and visual quality surpassing even that which one might find admirable in a more common Proof issuance with multiple points of comparison to draw upon. Struck to absolute sharpness at every ornamentation and minute detail in the design and replete with a full cameo contrast that leaves nothing to be desired.
