Mexico
Durango. Revolutionary "Muera Huerta" Peso 1914 MS63 NGC, Cuencamé mint, KM620, Grove-7785, cf. GB-84 (described as Reeded edge). Plain edge. The rarest variety of the famed Muera Huerta type, and almost certainly among the finest known, this incredible specimen stands as both the perfect embodiment and perfect exception to all of the usual rules of Mexican Revolutionary issues: the lettering is typically thin, and the dies oversized in relation to the flan, though all evidence of crude preparation ends there. The strike is extremely lustrous and sharp, not a detail underrepresented or flat, with a light topaz patina shimmering across the surfaces as the coin is rotated in hand. A fitting canvass for Francisco "Pancho" Villa's lasting proclamation "may Huerta die" against the draconian dictatorship of his archrival Victoriano Huerta.
