Danzig. Stephen Bathory (1577-1586) gold Ducat 1584 MS62 NGC, Danzig mint, Fr-3, Gum-796, Kop-7446, CNG-136.V. The highest grade level for this popular type at NGC, with a sole MS63 certified at PCGS. Beautifully struck with almost no areas of weakness, this piece exhibits satiny, matte luster on the obverse (textured as such through a slightly rusted die), the reverse brighter and more reflective, the entire planchet of a warm honey-gold color. The last comparable example of this type we handled was graded MS61 and realized $12,000 in our January 2018 auction.
