Lausanne. Bishop Aymon de Montfaucon gold Ducat ND (1491-1517) AU53 NGC, Fr-284, HMZ-1-524a. 3.46gm. An important early Swiss issue, notably one of only two ducat types that were issued by the bishops in the 15th and 16th centuries. Of the few that survive to the present day nearly all are seen with some degree of wear, many to a considerably further degree than what is seen with the current selection, which retains the majority of its detailing, along with a notable degree of residual luster. Well-centered and possessed of a richly aged gold color that lends considerable eye appeal, this admirable rarity is sure to serve as a highlight in the collection of its future owner.
