Zurich. City gold Medallic 25 Ducat ND (1706-37) UNC Details (Rim Damage, Tooled) NGC, SM-230, Hürlimann-Unl. 50mm. By H. J. Gessner. Date in chronogram on edge. Of the highest rarity; a magnificent medallic 25 Ducat piece, its engraving quality and huge size cumulating to create an awe-inspiring visual effect. The reverse features one of the most sweeping and expansive city views of any contemporary type, Zurich's buildings and waterways meticulously represented with rolling fields behind, struck to such high relief as to appear fully three-dimensional. The obverse is similarly sharp and eye-catchingly lustrous, hairlines in the fields in line with the grade but little evidence of so-called 'tooling' to the designs. The rim is obscured by the holder, but the presumed 'rim damage' refers to a minor edge bruise at 12 o'clock on the reverse. Indeed, the rarity and aesthetic allure of this multiple Ducat render its certified grade somewhat irrelevant, as examples are incredibly rare in any preservation whatsoever. A piece absolutely certain to find its place in an outstanding collection of Swiss material. Accompanied by fitted case.
