Upper Canada bronze "War of 1812-1815, Reward for Merit" Medal ND (c. 1817) MS64 Brown NGC, LeRoux-866. 51mm. By Thomas Wyon, Jr. Awarded by the Loyal and Patriotic Society of Toronto. A rare medal featuring the elegant imagery of the Canadian Beaver and British Lion confronting the American Eagle across the St. Lawrence River, and preserving glassy fields with just the lightest traces of die rust. According to C.K. Clarke's A History of the Toronto General Hospital (Toronto, 1913), 61 gold and 548 silver medals were originally produced, but never issued. Sold with old collector's tag.
