Denmark
Harald Bluetooth (c. 958-986) 1/2 Bracteate ND (after 983) MS64 NGC (photo-certificate), Hedeby (Haithabu) mint, Hauberg-3var., cf. Malmer-KG 9b. 19mm. 0.26gm. Imitating the Class 2 pre-reform deniers of Charlemagne from Dorestad (cf. Kluge 101-102). A very rare and historical issue of Denmark's first Christian king, preserved in positively fantastic condition with full luster on an uncracked flan. A monarch whose coinage is almost never seen outside of Scandinavia, with this being only the second example we can find coming to auction in the past decade. Hedeby came under Danish control in 983, suggesting a date of issue after that year.
