George III gilt-copper Proof Penny 1807-SOHO PR62+ Ultra Cameo NGC, Soho mint, KM-Unl., Peck-1344* (EXR). Oblique grained edge. Awarded the second highest rarity in Peck's standard reference, with 'Excessively Rare' ranking just below 'Probably Unique', this remarkable original gilt Proof is purportedly only the second known example and the only in private hands--the other piece referenced by Peck residing in the Birmingham City Museum. Already belonging to an incredibly coveted series, the present specimen maintains a superb Proof finish with rich device frosting against hard canary yellow mirrors and the usual few stray wisps ubiquitous for Soho gilt issues.
