Charles & Johanna "Late Series" 4 Reales ND (1542-1557) O-M AU Details (Saltwater Damage) NGC, Mexico City mint, KM0018, Cal-Unl., Nesmith-98. 32mm. Mostly gray in color with light peripheral loss due to corrosion, but central detail that remains sharp and attractive on both sides. Extremely rare, this O-M combination was presumed extant by Nesmith, but he had recorded no examples during his research. During the preparation of the Kent Ponterio Collection in 2009, it was mentioned that this was the only example he had seen. Since then, no other examples appear to have been sold at auction. An important opportunity for the specialist thus.
