GOVERNORS OF SIND: Farâs (?), ca. 840s/850s, AR damma (0.19g), A-4523, Fishman CS23, legends Allah wali / farâs (?) / (wa) nasiruhu // muhammad / rasul / Allah, , bold VF, RRR. This important piece confirms that the governor's name cannot be 'Abbâs, as I previously suggested, as the first letter is either Arabic "F" or "Q", with no other letter before. We have been unable to find a name in the chronicles that fits this name. The weight standard and style of this type suggests a late Abbasid governor, shortly before the Habbarid takeover circa 854.
