MUGHAL: Anonymous, AR shahi (9.08g), Qandahar, ND, countermarked 'adl-i qandahar in a pentagon, on type A-2576 shahi of the Safavid ruler Isma'il I, dated AH909, but without mint name (style of eastern mints), VF on Fine host, RR. Qandahar was lost to the Safavids by AH926, passing first to the local Arghunids, then very shortly afterwards to the Mughals, and not regained by the Safavid until at least 40-50 years later. The attribution of this countermark to the Mughals remains tentative.
