Some coins were coated with gold or silver to be used in a house raising ceremony. Houses were built frames first, and when the main ridge beam of the house was built the owner would have a celebration and ceremony inviting all the neighbors. The owner stood on the ridge beam and threw sweets and gold-and-silver-plated copper coins to all the neighbors who gathered below.
