GREAT SELJUQ: Chaghri Beg Da'ud, 1040-1061, AR dirham (3.02g), NM, ND, A-M1668, Ghaznavid style, with lillah repeated 8 times in both the obverse & reverse margins (hence no mint & date!), as on dirhams of the Ghaznavids Mahmud (cf. Zeno-65651) and Mawdud (Zeno-47586), also citing unidentified Muhammad, some light adhesions, probably unique and of great historic importance, VF, RRR. Chaghri Beg led the Seljuq army that defeated the larger Ghaznavid army at Dandanaqan on 3 Ramadan 431, and seized Balkh early in 432. The name Muhammad cannot refer to the Ghaznavid Muhammad during his ephemeral 2nd reign in 432, as he was never recognized west of the Indus Valley.
