ILKHAN: Arghun, 1284-1291, AR dirham (2.27g) (Astarabad), AH69x, A-2149.2, Zeno-8621, with hawk & sun, Shi'ite reverse, slight weakness, second known example of this interesting type., VF, RRR, ex Christian Rasmussen Collection. The date appears in numerals where the name of Arghun should appear in Arabic. This piece may represent some sort of resistance by the local authorities, who were issuing coins as Astarabad in the name of Arghun (and Ghazan) until 693, but for some unknown reason, replaced the name of Arghun with the date.
